He’s My Husband | Psalm 16

During my single again days, I was lonely.  Whether your former marriage was good or combative, it’s easy to get used to talking about your day to another adult. Not just easy conversations. Talking about problems with the kids or how to pay the bills, is what couples do. Or maybe you’ve never been married to experience this, but you’ve observed other couples having daily conversations. So without a partner - suddenly or always - the longing is there for conversation.

A few months into my sudden singleness, I started talking to the Lord like He was my husband. When it was late at night, He met me in those quiet moments. When I read His words (the Bible) those words became His love letter. These verses from Psalms 16 are just one of those love letters that describe what it’s like to have God as your husband and best friend:

“I praise the Lord because he advises me. Even at night, I feel his leading. I keep the Lord before me always. Because he is close by my side, I will not be hurt. So I rejoice and am glad. Even my body has hope, because you will not leave me in the grave. You will not let your holy one rot. You will teach me how to live a holy life. Being with you will fill me with joy; at your right hand I will find pleasure forever.” Psalms‬ ‭16‬:‭7‬-‭11‬ ‭NCV‬‬

The next time you’re wanting adult conversation or need advice late at night, remember the words of this Psalm and reach up to this Friend who is waiting for you to talk to Him.
